Young Builders Network – Victoria
Mandate
To develop a young executive’s network in order to provide an atmosphere of networking to build relationships within the construction community; to present information, professional development and leadership or mentorship opportunities that will benefit the individual YBN members and their respective companies; to participate in community engagement initiatives; and to support and promote career paths in the construction industry.
YBN is proudly supported by the Vancouver Island Construction Association.
Events
The VICA YBN Network has two separate functions each month:
- Executive Meetings:
Everyone is welcome to attend. The purpose is to discuss upcoming programming, as well as to plan and shape the committee.
- Networking & Professional Development Events:
All YBN members are encouraged to attend. These events vary, with each one focused on fulfilling our mandate.
The Builders & The Tools Podcast
Join AJ and Barclay “the Beard of Wisdom” while they interview Vancouver Island’s construction leaders. They dive into what has made these successful men and women; asking about their experiences, stories and advice they have to offer for those who are grinding their way to the top.

Sponsorship varies and includes:
- Logo in email marketing;
- Logo on the registration page;

Daniel Byrne
Chair, Herold Engineering
Father, Husband, Engineer and Terrible Golfer.Daniel works as a Senior Structural Engineer at Herold Engineering and will often be seen around dancing wildly or conversing louder than anyone around him.

Jayna Wiewiorowski
Vice-Chair, Camosun College – Women in Trades
Jayna has worked at Camosun College for more years than she would care to share! After several different roles within the College, she found her passion working in the School of Trades. She has helped support diversity within the trades for the past decade through Camosun’s women in trades initiatives. including support for women beginning their careers in the trades, up to a Red Seal completion!
Jayna has been part of YBN since 2016! She has truly learned the value of networking and connections through the group, not only for herself but for her students.

Cole Docherty
Secretary / Treasurer, Abstract Construction
Cole works as a Project Manager for Abstract Construction. He strives to bring positivity and excitement to his community through volunteering and working together with his peers. Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”.

Past-Chair, Wilson M Beck Insurance Services
AJ has been a part of YBN since 2013. He moved to Victoria from the wintery north where he has continued his career working with contractors and construction professionals in regards to their insurance and bonding needs. He is a part of the Wilson M. Beck team
Tim Berntsen
Membership Director, Omicron Construction
A lover of the outdoors, construction, and socializing with his peers, Tim is a Construction Manager and EIT with Omicron Construction. After learning about the YBN, Tim discovered that it was a perfect fit when he was looking for ways to get more involved within the industry.
