Description
In this short session, the folks from McConnnan, Bion, O'Connor & Peterson bring their deep industry knowledge to support small contractors and residential contractors working with non-standard contracts.
We will discuss issues such as:
- understanding the implications of an employee vs independent contractor relationship
- avoiding personal liability as a contractor
- drafting construction agreements
- understanding delay claims
- understanding builders’ liens
- responding to claims for negligence
- enforcing payment terms, and
- dealing with third party claims.

Course Instructors
Danielle Blanchard | Associate, McConnnan, Bion, O'Connor & Peterson
Danielle is from Victoria and currently practices at a local law firm. She has a background in human resources, conflict resolution, and has been published in the Journal of Canadian College of Construction Lawyers for her research in public procurement methods. She has local construction industry experience and is a member of the Vancouver Island Construction Association. She maintains a practice in civil litigation, employment law, construction law and immigration.
Matthew Booth | Associate, McConnnan, Bion, O'Connor & Peterson
Matthew is born and raised in Saskatchewan. While attending law school, Matthew participated in the Student Legal Services Clinic and provided legal services to low-income citizens in the areas of criminal and family law. He articled in a general practice firm focusing on real estate, family law and incapacity planning, successfully representing clients in the Provincial and Superior Courts of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Since 2022, Matthew has assisted clients in the areas of creditor remedies, foreclosures, judgment enforcement, construction law, and real estate.
