The construction industry contributes 8.6 per cent of provincial GDP and is the biggest employer in BC’s goods sector with 225,000 employees. It is a vital industry and, due to its scale, is impacted by activities in many areas of our economy and society. Every day, in the midst of opportunity, contractors are facing challenges to their ongoing and future success.
VICA serves more than 450 union and open shop companies across Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and other coastal areas of BC. With our regional partners, we serve over 10,000 companies across the province through the provision of skills training, networking opportunities, and business intelligence.
As an industry leader, we also advocate on behalf of the industry we serve at a regional level, collaborating with the BC Construction Association to support provincial initiatives and the Canadian Construction Association on issues impacting our industry nationwide. From natural disasters to legislative failures, these are some issues that matter to us:
