WHMIS 2015 Awareness

Hazardous materials can cause serious health problems for workers. WHMIS training provides information on hazardous products, as defined, and described, in the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.

The Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHMIS) is a comprehensive plan for providing information on the safe use of hazardous materials in Canadian workplaces. Understanding WHMIS can reduce the risk of workplace injuries. WHMIS information is provided by means of product labels, safety data sheets (SDS) and worker education programs.

By the end of the course, you will cover:

• Overview of WHMIS
• Overview of hazard groups and classes
• Physical hazards
• Health hazards
• Labels including required label elements
• Safety data sheets (SDS)
• Understand the roles and responsibilities that suppliers, employers and workers have in WHMIS
• Understand the difference between the two main label types used in WHMIS
• Identify the hazards represented by each hazard class
• Find additional information about hazards and protective measures on SDS

• Self-paced e-learning course with animated and computerised voice-over slides, WorksafeBC and YouTube videos, and interactive quizzes
• About 2.5 hours of self-paced instruction
• Final Test: Your course completion certificate will not be released until you successfully complete the final test with an 80% passing grade. If you do not pass the final test with the required grade, you can continue to retest until you successfully pass.

• Internet connection is required
• Headphones or otherwise quiet space recommended as course requires listening to a significant amount of audio
• Device Compatibility: accessible via smartphone, tablet, and desktop/laptop computer
